buywithme: (Calm Prefect)

[Prefect's voice is surrounded by the soft cooing of like, a MILLION BILLION TRIBBLES. He sounds just about as calm as he has ever sounder in his life.]

Comrades, I honestly have no idea how it is even remotely possible to dislike these creatures. The number of you deriving enjoyment from their torture is frankly a little disturbing to me. They're nice, and they're gentle, and there is literally no possible reason to stomp on them or feed them to your dogs.

[More cooing, and Prefect lets out a strangely happy sigh.]

[EDITED TO ADD]

Also, Comrades, I recommend that we solve the Tribble problem by hoarding them all into a room which we keep free from food, and then allow them to live there forever.

Yes, Sister?

Maybe they do, or maybe they just have tiny adorable mouths that I haven't found yet.

Haha, it's fine. It's making me giggle

Sister? No. Comrade. Comrade is a term that I thought had not left my country. Especially with such widespread use.

Wait, adorable mouths?

Oh? Are you from the Factory, Comrade? Or from Russia? I know that O'Brien uses it, and where I'm from everyone uses it, but most people who I speak too here assume I'm from Russia for some reason.

Yes. Moscow. And I have spoken a couple of time with O'Brien, but he is from a completely different place.

What's Moscow like? Where I'm from, that part of the world isn't... really still functioning like it used too.

From: [identity profile] greatlightother.livejournal.com
Not functioning? How is that possible? And Moscow is...the same as it has been for a long time. Dirty. Crowded. Dangerous.

Well... It is still all of those things, only now we just lump most of Russia in with the remainder of the eastern extremities, and it's where the production lines are kept.

What is this Factory you talk about?

It's the Factory, Sister. The only Factory.

My division personally? Was in sales, but we worked with balls, beans, bags, beds, boybands, boats, bellbottom trousers, bouncy castles--

[This could go on for a while.]

[She'll interrupt!]

Yes, yes. I think I understand. That is quite a list, Comrade.

The Factory produces everything, sister. All the jobs, all the products, all the schools, all the housing. It sustains us entirely, and all it asks in return is that we work hard and buy things.

It gives you the currency just to turn around and buy from the same place?

How long has that been happening?

I'm not sure. I know technically that there were times before the Factory, with poverty and misery and a wide variety of historical clothing, but I don't know how or when it changed. Those times are so far away, it's like they're not even real. Like someone just wrote them into existence so we could make films about them.

That is how the past feels to a lot of people, Comrade. It's so different, so strange, but it still happened. Hard to believe, but it happened.

I used to believe that the world really was in black and white back in the beginning of the century because of the shows I watched...but they weren't. There were real times, as much as the ones now.

...The barge stopped somewhere black and white once, Sam said it was like old television. I never saw television without colour before then.

This Barge is a strange place. The odd places it stops.

Sam?

It is. That one wasn't actually so bad.

Oh, excuse me, Sister. Sam is my Warden. We have been together for some time.

And you do not speak bad of him? You must have a good relationship.
