[Prefect is looking... STRANGELY CONTENT, Maybe even KIND OF HAPPY in a very carefully contained way. He smiles at the camera.]

So... Comrades, I know sometimes it seems like things only ever go wrong here, but... I suppose there are high points. I mean, we... have access to the plants again, I believe? Comrade Persephone? So, you understand, Comrades, that despite all the difficulties, and all the murders-- [AT THE WORD 'MURDERS' HE SORT OF BURSTS INTO A MASSIVE GRIN. Then he immediately tries to control it and clears his throat.] So, yes, despite all... all of that [ACCIDENTALLY SMILING AGAIN.] there are occasionally silver linings to being stuck here.

[He clears his throat, and leans forward.]

So, uh, could we discuss what hours the garden will be open from now on?

Comrade, I consider this to be a special set of circumstances.

[FACEPALM.] No, that's not how it works. It's a slippery slope, when you get to thinking like that.

And it'll put you right back in the mindset you were in when you had all those people 'discontinued'.

Sam, how many people has Sylar killed since he got on board? And despite whatever stupid, lying claims he might make about how much he's changed, do you think he has ever intended to stop?

Do you think he wouldn't kill me if his warden would let him get away with it?

Do you think he would have had a remarkable change of heart about trying to convince me to kill myself, last time I spoke to him?

Comrade, I do not think that you will be able to find a convincing argument for this not being a good thing.

No, but this isn't about him; it's about you. It doesn't matter who it is. Once you start making exceptions for some people, pretty soon you'll keep expanding and expanding your definition of who deserves it.

Just stop. You're supposed to be better than that. I mean-- c'mon, Prefect, you're supposed to be better than him. Don't piss your progress away on him.

Comrade, I promise you that this is about him. The entire population of the people in the world who genuinely deserve to die and for whom I can't think of a single reason not to be glad about it, can be condensed to and defined as him.

And I am better than him.

I know you are. Usually.

But right now you're not.

Usually is the defining quantifier, whether or not I am is a binary issue.

And I am

Okay, hang on. Let's back up.

How does doing exactly what he would do if you were in his position make you a better person?

Because, unless he was celebrating his own death? He would never be able to do this to someone who deserved it as much.
