Usually, Prefect is pretty much the last person on the barge who would come tapping at someone's window, trying to lure their out of their room into a watery grave. He's a nice person, and more than that, a man who holds himself up to a high set of moral standards.
Unfortunately, he fell overboard and turned into a mermaid, and he does have a precedent for taking a keen interest in fucking with people when he's been turned into a mermaid. Still, it's probably okay to open your window and talk to him, right?

[Riddick has a knife, a whalebone thing he's very proud of, but he doesn't use it to hunt. Blood leads to sharks, sharks lead to an interrupted meal, but if he could just strangle him-- oh this bastard and his bastardy tail. He hangs on to the net, trying to keep it around the other merman.

[Prefect certainly does not stop thrashing thank you very much, but he is getting kind of tired and he feels a bit like he might actually be more entangled in the net than he was before. Then again, then net isn't actually going to eat him, and Riddick probably is, so instead of trying to get out of the net, he begins trying to swat Riddick in the face with the flat of his tail.
He can probably swim for freedom with his arms trapped by his sides. As long as he can move his tail he can just... drag the net with him...]

[He's fending the thrashing tail off with one brawny arm and clinging to the net with the other hand because do you know how long it took to salvage that thing.]

[Prefect wailed, still struggling and thrashing and twisting the net more thoroughly around himself.]

But suddenly Riddick goes still, just being carried along.]

[Prefect thrashes his tail some more, since really, Riddick wants to eat him, what does he have to lose?]

And you're just trying to make me stop so you can eat me! [Prefect gives another defiant little thrash of his tail, but he does let himself still for a moment, once this is done. If Riddick goes for his neck then he can just start struggling again...]

[He grunts and sets to work doing what he can to staunch the wound-- using up some precious textile, no less-- it looks like just a scratch, it won't be open long.]

[Prefect has more or less stopped struggling now, but the net's still tangled around him, and he's not entirely happy with Riddick patching up his tail without letting him out first.]

Stop struggling. This net is pieced together from at least a dozen shipfalls. It's the good stuff that the urchins don't wind up eating. Don't tear it.

[But he sighs and lets Riddick slowly untruss him, relaxing a little as the nets loosen around him.]
They don't pay attention to which of us do that. They just think we're all the same. That's why they always fall for it, because they think we're all their fairytale creatures...

[Riddick laughs nastily. He swings his lure back up above his head to give a last bit of light-- his eyes are adapted for these depths why live down here if your eyes aren't, honestly but this is fine, delicate work.]

[As the light returns to them, Prefect squints at Riddick through the gloom. It's so dark sometimes he forgets how different the anler looks to him. How strange he is down here in the dark. Still, Prefect squirms a little, but doesn't bite. His tail feels tender where he's nicked it on Riddick's teeth, and he still feels jumpy and uncomfortable about having nearly been eaten.]

[If underwater communication was well suited to huffing, Riddick would huff in irritation.]

I have some tubeworm steaks at home. They aren't very filling but it's something.
Why do you pester the air-breathers, anyway? You can't want to eat all of them. You could fit maybe one or two, tops.
[Assuming Prefect has a conveniently distendable stomach, but really, it's dark and cold down here and food isn't always readily available, so why wouldn't you.]

[The lure is glowing tantalizingly again, and it's... not easy for Prefect to stop looking at it.]
And I don't much care to eat them. I like to look in at them, and to see what they'll do about things...
[Like how they react to being bitten, how they escape from jellyfish...]

[He frees the net and slings it around his waist, tying it up carefully out of the way of his fins.]
Why do you want to know all that? They seem pretty simple. Do like, air and light. Don't like, drowning, being eaten.

[He flares his fins to look bigger, and lifts his dorsal spines, most of them much shorter than that long whip but much sharper looking.]

And I don't know what they Feel. Sometimes I see little glimpses of something strange in them, but then it goes, and I don't know what it is.
