Comrade...

[Pauuuuse, this is kind of hard to say.]

...I honestly, honestly understand how you feel. I know that sounds easy to say, but you have no idea how much-- and how passionately people hated O'Brien. My own inmate, Barron? Murdered him, because he wanted to keep me away from him. People tore him apart, and sometimes he deserved it, and sometimes he didn't, and it did make me angry because he needed help so badly...

...But you can't force people to like somebody. You can't force them to want that person around, and you can't blame them for it when... when that person has done so much wrong.

If there was a concentrated campaign against him, that had continued after his graduation? If I saw wardens arguing for him not to be assigned, or telling him to keep away from their inmates, or... or really anything else, then I would think that one way or another you should take action, but... Honestly, Comrade, I think you might be reading more deeply into this than is necessary.

He obviously has people who want him to know he's loved. At a bare minimum, Comrade, he has you.

I think if this does continue then you should speak up in his defense, because if the wardens here can't accept that he's graduated, and that he's good enough to be a warden now, then they might as well leave, because what they're saying is that what we're doing here is meaningless, but... short of that... I think maybe you should try and break down what it is you're angry about, and examine whether your response is... proportionate to it.
