54 - The one friend who will NEVER LEAVE YOU. EVER.

What happened? Did we crash? How could we have crashed? Sam? Are you there? Sam? Sam?

...

Harvey?

Gabriel?

...

Ralph?

[ooc: Prefect didn't fall off because he had spent the last few days camping out in the cells with Gabriel, he's gone straight from there to his cabin and hadn't been out since.]

[Having used his time a bit more wisely than the others, the Master's already spoken to enough of the locals to find his bearings. Their options aren't great: The Endless Forest, the Darkest Woods, and the ubiquitous 'bandits.' Seeing as the Master's interested in domination and destruction, the only place he really wants to go is the castle. And to get there, well, the Endless Forest seems the best option]

The forest.

[He smiles slightly, trying to look more like Sam and less... smug and generally evil]

Knowing fairytales, that's where all the action is. Where everybody's likely to be.

[Prefect hasn't used his time wisely at all. He's mostly been dividing his time between looking for people, and reminding himself that none of this is real, no matter how nice it looks. He gives a slight nod at the Masters suggestion for where they should start looking.]

Okay, which way is the forest.

[Then he frowns]

Wait, aren't there wolves in the forest?

[Prefect doesn't care for wolves.]

The forest's east of here.

[He glances around, about to say something, but then Prefect asks the question about the wolves, and he sighs in frustration]

Of course there are wolves, you--

[Pause]

...inmate. Anyway, before we go on in search of the others, we'll need some supplies. [And then, he smiles] Good thing you're an expert at haggling.

[He pulls out his journal and jots a list of provisions down, just enough food to get them through a few days (he does have to eat more than he's accustomed to these days, after all), as well as practical supplies, then hands the paper over to his 'inmate.']

We might as well play to our strengths, right?

[Prefect stares at the Master, then looks at the list, then looks back up at the Master]

We should also try and get some kind of Wolf repellent.

[Then something else occurs to him as he glances over his shoulder, looking towards some market stalls nearby]

So, what do we have to trade with?

...

[This is the problem with falling from the Barge. Nothing but the clothes on his back.]

Well, we'll have to get clever now, won't we? How do people get something from nothing? Promises. IOUs. Favours.

[Prefect looks at the Master impassively, his expression clearly unimpressed.]

I don't get something for nothing, Comrade. It's not how I operate.

[He rolls his eyes and is about to utter 'useless' under his breath]

Fine. We'll meet here in four hours. Find whatever you can, do the odd job, and we'll see what sorts of trades we can get.

[This, of course, means that the Master's going to stop trying to rely on Prefect to be useful, and just steal whatever he wants from the villagers]

[Prefect nods amicably]

Okay, Comrade. See you in an hour.

[And off he goes]
